Stuc Pierre is a gypsum and air drying lime blended plaster traditionally manufactured in Île-de-France (the region surrounding and including Paris). As the name suggests it is a stucco formulated to imitate stone. Colour and texture is achieved through the addition of broken stone, sand aggregates and mineral tints.
Historically Stuc Pierre has been used as an exterior stucco above limestone foundation stones to create a façade closely resembling and often indistinguishable to the naked eye from cut stone. Furthermore, joint lines are often cut to create the appearance of stone blocking and optionally filled with contrasting coloured material to emulate mortar.
The use of Stuc Pierre has continued in France through the restoration of historical buildings. Prominent projects have recently been carried out in the palace of Versailles and the Mona Lisa room of the Louvre Museum. However, Stuc Pierre is increasingly being valued for its intrinsic beauty, comparative low energy of production and low carbon footprint seeing increased use in new construction.
Real Finishes offers a veneer formulation of Stuc Pierre for interiors and acts as a technical consultant to design build professionals specifying for exterior use.
